These Echizen lacquerware teacup coasters are beautifully designed in a plum blossom motif and coated with a lacquered technique called tame-nuri.

Tame-nuri is a lacquer coating technique where the red color can be seen through the translucent lacquer by applying a coat of translucent black lacquer on top of a middle coat of red lacquer. 

Each coaster is crafted in the shape of the auspicious motif of a plum blossom in full bloom. The five petals of the plum blossoms are carefully layered next to each other and are neatly shaped on the backside as well, with all edges smooth and rounded. The curvatures of the pedals highlight the lustrous shine of the tame-nuri.
