Its lotus-shaped design draws from the chrysanthemum-shaped plates that trace back to the origins of Usuki ware, reinterpreted in a contemporary manner. The area surrounding Usuki City is also known for its lotus flowers, which further inspired the piece.

Unlike many other Usuki ware pieces, this teacup is first shaped on the potter’s wheel and then carefully trimmed by hand by skilled artisans. The softly contoured rim casts subtle shadows across the table, creating shifting expressions depending on the light.
