Enjoy delicious chawanmushi, Japanese steamed egg custard, in this beautiful Arita ware chawanmushi bowl.

Painted with a straw pattern called mugiwarade, rendered here in several delicate colors creating a feeling that is both intriguing and subdued. Each brush stroke starts out thick and tapers out at the end, which adds a subtle interest to this otherwise simple pattern. 

The shape of the bowl is inspired by an ohitsu, a traditional rice container similar to a bucket. With its simple form and straight lines, this piece has a slightly larger capacity compared to the other chawanmushi bowls from this series.

Versatile in size and shape, this piece can also hold other steamed dishes, soups and desserts.
